Excellent review of taxation policy and its effect on the economy. It is based on models using data that relates economic performance to tax brackets over a period of many years. Key points: 1. Raising taxes on the very wealthy doesn't necessarily raise more money but it does influence behavior, 2. There is a lag time between a change in tax policy and economic performance, 3. The political policies of both the right (lower taxes boost the economy) and the left (soak the rich) are incorrect, 4. While taxation is necessary to run a government, it should also be viewed as a tool to encourage investment that stimulates growth.

For years I have struggled to understand the many contradictory things politicians say about taxes. After reading "Put Money in Your Pocket" by John Early, I have a much better grasp of how and why the many diverse aspects of tax policy affect the prosperity of our country. This book clarifies the importance of tax brackets and explains how they work and the best way to use them, which I have not seen so clearly articulated anywhere else. This book totally debunks the so-callled trickle down economic tax policies by using solid, hard facts (instead of theory) and historical data to show the best tax policy for consistently growing the economy and binging prosperity to the people.

this book gives you a deep understanding of what works and the details behind them. Ideas like: "It's not wages, it's hours of labor" and "Class Warfare is a shift in policy that changes how the pie is distributed but does not contribute to a faster growing pie" were stunning eye openers to me. I felt I always knew what was right, but never how to explain it to others, and more importantly myself. Put Money In Your Pocket is not political, and not for either rich or poor. It is for those who share the American Ideal. It is probably for you. I love this quote: "We all benefit when those with great talent or resources get a bigger slice of the pie for creating bigger benefits for society. We all suffer when those with economic or political leverage take a bigger piece than they create, whether they are a CEO or a labor union. "
